There are about 175 monthly million users who go to Pinterest to actively look for inspiration, motivation, services and products. And while you’d imagine users go to Pinterest only for ideas in home decor, arts and crafts and recipes – think again. There’s a lot more.

Statistic: Most popular Pinterest categories in the United States as of February 2017 | Statista
In 2017, health and beauty ranked 4th in the US top of the 12 most popular categories on Pinterest.

Think about it: people are always looking for ways to look and live better. According to this Pinterest report on New Year resolutions, 2018 will see self-care retreats on meditation, hot yoga, desk yoga and brain training part of the new search trends.

Yoga and Pinterest, here’s an inspired pairing!

In a 2016 study, 71% of pinners say that Pinterest is a “guide to life”. And there’s even a part of users who go straight to Pinterest to search for stuff, rather than use Google.

That being said, if you have a blog dedicated to yoga, a brand selling yoga accessories and clothing, or an awe-inspiring yoga teacher you might want to get your content on Pinterest soon. Your audience is looking for you. And it’s ready to buy.

More than a social network

While most think of Pinterest as a place to build lists, this network is a lot more. Pinterest is a search engine and much like Google, if you provide quality optimized content you can harness the search power to your benefit.

I’ve seen clients for whom Pinterest became the second biggest source of visits on a website, bringing in brand visibility, email subscribers, fans, customers and partnerships.

People go to Pinterest for inspiration, planning and shopping. A Pinterest report on millennial users notes that they use the platform to inspire “them to make dreams a reality, more than any other platform”. They use Pinterest to transform “vague ideas into reality” and the majority of them says that they want to achieve a big milestone in the next five years.

Your audience is on Pinterest and it is waiting for your content. 63% of millennial pinners use Pinterest to discover new brands and products to buy. Data shows that Pinterest users are well educated (34% have at least some college education), have an above-average income (35% have annual incomes over $75,000) and are looking for inspiration to put their dreams into play.

If you teach yoga and you’re looking for ways to inspire others, share that love on Pinterest

Show up for them. Share your favorite poses, your morning routines, your go-to stretches, your favorite books on yoga or your next meditation retreat. Share that love on Pinterest. You have a beautiful, awe-inspiring medium to show up and inspire your audience.

What to pin

If you’re new to Pinterest and just starting out, the general advice is to start with 10 to 15 boards and at least 10 pins per board. It’s advised to combine your content with repins from other pinners and blogs. Remember your content is supposed to inspire and add value to your audience, not just to promote salesy pitches.

Here are a couple of ideas on what to pin:

  • Poses for beginners, poses for weight loss, handstands

  • Yoga routines for millennials, expecting mothers, kids or seniors

  • Yoga for pain relief

  • Pictures that show the lifestyle

  • Yoga books and guides

  • Yoga videos

  • Yoga retreats

  • Yoga clothing

Types of content to pin:

  • Images (poses, instructions, lifestyle, exercise, clothing, wellness, travel)

  • Videos (instructions, guided meditations, tour of yoga room, yoga studio, class, retreats)

When to pin:

The best time of the day to pin is between 8 pm to 11 pm and the best day of the week to pin seems to be Saturday.

Think of your audience and try to imagine their daily schedule. When would they be free to go to Pinterest? When would they need to find your content? Do they have day jobs that make it hard for them to use social media? Or are they on a flexible schedule?

Consider this survey result: 42 percent of respondents said they practice yoga in the morning (6 to 10 a.m.). It’s likely that they might be looking for inspiration around that interval.

Go even further and consider how your specific yoga style could match with people on Pinterest. It’s likely you have more than one type of customer or student coming to your yoga studio or watching your yoga trainings on YouTube. Segment your clients by age, sex, location, health problems, type of work/career and objectives (losing weight, flexibility, mindfulness etc)

A DOYOUYOGA global yoga survey has vinyasa flow, hatha yoga and restorative yoga in the top 3 most practiced forms.
