EJ #12: Overcoming Fear of Being Visible
This past month has been crazy. I for one have been overcoming so many fears and reaching new visibility milestones. It's been awesome. It's been scary. It's been great. I don't want to do it all over again, but at the same time, I so do. In March I overcame my fear of being visible. I struggled through impostor syndrome, put to silence all the voices saying “you’re not a native English speaker, your accent is dreadful”, “you haven’t built your reputation, who is going to listen to you?” and took action despite the fear.
5 Lessons About Visibility & Entrepreneurship
Last week I ran my first solo Facebook live video in a group of entrepreneurs I hardly knew. I also ran my first live training on Pinterest marketing for beginners. I know many of you joined me, and I am so grateful to have had your support in achieving that personal milestone. Obviously, I hope it was a valuable experience for you too. So please let me know if there's something you'd have me change next time to make listening to me more bearable :)
The different ways I showed up for my own visibility strategy this month taught me a couple of important lessons, which I did learn the hard way. I want to share these with you in the hope that it will inspire you and show you that you’re not alone in this entrepreneurial journey:
1. To be visible means allowing yourself to feel vulnerability.
And that's not a bad thing. In fact, that beautiful vulnerability is what makes our connections online authentic.
2. To receive abundance, mindset and wishful thinking are not enough.
Specific actions are needed, like sales pitches, videos, emails.
3. To make growth leaps in business and in marketing, you need to act despite the fear.
Start small, but don't back out when your visibility strategy is delivering results, offering you new opportunities to grow, expand, make more money, or work with amazing people.
4. To be able to keep a clear head through this amazing entrepreneurial journey, you need self-care rituals.
My morning routine has become sacred and it works so well in helping me start the day in high-peak mode. Yoga, meditation, journaling, affirmations - all of these are not mumbo-jumbo. These are active ways to reprogram your brain for positivity, focus, and productivity.
5. We are creators of our own opportunities.
In every little thing we do every day to support our businesses and our visibility strategies we are actively creating opportunities for us to grow, to meet new clients, to fail, to succeed... to learn.
