What to See in Greece: the Lighthouse at Cape Melagkavi
I have always been fascinated with lighthouses. There's something so romantic about them and the one at Cape Melagkavi offers an unforgettable sight. Together with the temple and the lake at Limni Vouliagmenis, you can make a day of it and you will not regret it. On your way there, you can also stop at Loutraki for a bite to eat and shopping.
The view here is out of this world. On a sunny day you can see beyond the sea all the way to the nearby shores. If you're lucky you can even spot the Corinth Channel which cuts straight through the land and separates Peloponnese from the Greekmainland.
On day 2 of our holiday in Greece we left Athens and headed towards the temple ruins at West Court of Heraion of Perachora. We were thrilled about our upcoming trip on Peloponnese but this place, on the mainland, remains a top favorite in our one-week holiday.
We intended to visit the temple, but when we got there we decided to first take a stroll in the surroundings. The scenery was too beautiful not to take the time to take it in. Walking on this thin strip of rocky land, we couldn't believe our eyes how beautiful the place was. We just couldn't get enough of watching the mountains at the horizon, the shores that surrounded us and the amazing deep blue of the sea.
The lightouse at Cape Melagvaki is only a couple of minutes away from the temple. To get there, we followed the path over the rocky hill in front of the parking. The hike is well worth the time for a chance to take in the sea and enjoy the view at the top.
